A very productive day indeed.
In the article about the track Orgeldings, I already mentioned that I wasn’t completely happy with the sound of the Church Organ 2nd free VSTi plugin.
Ok, it seems I don’t need to look any further: there’s some kind of a Rolls Royce of virtual organs, and it’s called Hauptwerk. And no, it’s not a VSTi in the traditional sense, rather it’s a standalone thingie (for performance reasons, because it’s rather…complex), which integrates via a VSTi link. Of course, a professional product like this isn’t free – but, and that’s the cool part, if you’re happy with 44.1/48 kHz and 16 bit, and don’t need more than 250 pipes sounding at once, there is a free version!
And yes, it’s complex. I already had some understanding of pipe organs, like what stops are and what consoles and combinations are. That level of understanding is not sufficient to merely play with Hauptwerk. But, after spending some considerable time finding out how organs work, I was able to mix the second version of Orgeldings (working title), here called Orgeldings Hauptwerk.
On to Sachsenbohne, about which I already mentioned that I intended to have the lead part played by a synth. The first mix uses the Jordan Lead preset of the Kurzweil K2600XS, and after I had somewhat widened the proper panning base of the trombones, here’s a first mix as well.
Enjoy!
Update: and here’s some still shots @m333l extracted from the videos of this session:
Update 2: different as those two tracks may be, they work surprisingly well together, what do you think?
Update 3: I decided to include the old, crappy version of Orgeldings for direct comparison as well!
