Today I drove to the town of Freising, mostly known for the airport (although that one is called Erding) or for the Staatsbrauerei. My visit had nothing to do with that. Rather, I joined Johannes Then for a mixing session.
Why I went there
To accompany the mixing of the album, of course. Well, not all of it – Johannes had already sent two sets of roughmixes of selected tracks. Which I had reviewed, picked a favourite, and added some notes. And we sat together to go through some detailed adjustments together.
And of course for me to at least once do this: take part in a mixing session where I’m not engineering. Before MAX, I had never contracted mixing work.
What we accomplished
I had some reservations about the space (acoustic one that is) that Johannes had chosen. And I wanted the piano for Abendsonne to sparkle a little. And the bass drum for Mittagssonne to hit.
In summary, a very productive half-day. Johannes agreed to complete the mixes by today.
What’s next?
After I get the mixes, Christoph Stickel (mastering) can start working his magic. Which was originally scheduled to start in cw48, so he might get a head start, or work on the agreed-on schedule.
Still waiting for a quote from a vinyl manufacturer. Following that, there’ll be a nomination of one of those.
Visual design has already been agreed to finish still this month. So all the deliverables going into the product shall be ready before December.
