Größenordnungen had been one of those ideas I had, had written up, and then kept that idea in the data storage.
The idea was some like this: three pieces with melodica and a tapping string instrument. Part 1 would be very slow, sparse and with loads of effects. Part 3 would on the other hand be some virtuoso, kinda Bartok-meets-Fiuczynski postbop stuff. Part 2 would be something in between – definitely with some song character, but with some tonal and rhythmic twist along the way.
The idea rematerialized when I was discussing a possible involvment of Warr guitarist and saxophonist Raül Bonell from Spain. We did discuss some ideas on the surface – and suddenly, I remembered Größenordnungen.
Part 2: 300K
Today, I decided to start with part 2. I had some basic melodic and harmonic ideas written down on some manuscript paper, and starting from that, began to sketch out the track, going iteratively between paper, piano and DAW. This first guide track replaces the melodica with a cheezy synth and the Warr guitar with a grand piano – but apart from that, it’s all there.
Fortunately, work on this track was a really straightforward affair – the music just flowed during the afternoon, and when I put down the pencil, the track was all but finished.
Score has been sent out today – let’s see what Raül thinks of it!
