Minmax: Musicmaking

Last Thursday night, I started assembling stuff for making recordings (of the minimal techno kind) that will eventually be assembled into the track Maximaltechno for minmax. Let’s look at what happened…

17.6.26: The Mothership returns

What better way to start off minimal techno than to revisit the biggest modular build you have?

I spent some effort on build fancy envelopes for the bass drum. To be of ADSR kind even though most sequencers don’t do gates but triggers. The solution? As always: pichenettes, more specifically, Stages.

Sequencing-wise, this was Robeaux L8II (8 channel TR-style thingie), Marbles (aleatoric), Bloom (strange) and Grids. Sound-wise, I had somehow thought to include Ensemble, and you never can go wrong with Plaits. And BIA. And putting Mimeophon somewhere.

I recorded about 15 minutes with it and then decided to be done with it. For now.

21.6.26: DFAM’s Castle

We had enough proper sequencers, so why don’t we do without them? DFAM. And Bastl Kastle Drum. Nothing more. I recorded them onto two separate tracks, and there were two runs. Again, might retry that one, this time maybe with an effects section.

22.6.26: Determinism

For the most normal setup so far, we have Elektron Analog Rytm (aka EAR), Spice and you see a Line6 M9 (and you don’t see the Eventide Eclipse).

That was fun! So much fun, indeed, that I recorded a total of four tracks.

About progress…

Since Wednesday night last week, I had recorded a bit more than 90 minutes. Which means if I keep up the pace, I’ll be done by mid-July. With what? To have about double as much as I need. How much do I need? Five hours, because that will then be time-compressed with a factor of 64…
