I asked this (or a similar question) more than 16 years ago. This time I’m mostly asking myself. With Atlas just released, what’s going to be the next album? Because I just might start another one.
There’s four ideas on the table, so let’s have a look at them. In alphabetical (and otherwise unordered) fashion…
A Lesson Learned

I had this idea before, even officially started work on it – and then abandoned it.
So what’s the idea, or rather: what’s different this time?
The idea of heavy guitars and death metal influence stays. However, more crossover is allowed, or rather encouraged, even considered required maybe. Glitchcore. Neurofunk. Doom Metal. Whatever might happen.
My last Music Weeklies‘ track might point in one of several directions.
Trade: this one would be a learning experience, and a challenging one. And the musical details are hazy at best.
Drei Karten

Back when that Partnerurlaub event happened, we did a ca. one-hour-session aiming for proto-acid-house/techno. Which also happened to address two other goals we had set, so we could move three cards to the „done“ section – hence the title.
It’s no great musical innovation (quite the contrary) – but it’s also a true low-effort thing.
Trade: linear editing and gentle things on the twobus, and we have a full-length album with one track (or a single with the length of an album). Not that innovative, though.
Minmax

A long time ago, I took a recording of the third movement (the really fast one) of Beethoven’s „Mondscheinsonate“, or rather 40-odd seconds of it, and timestretched it. A lot. I called this Ambienthoven.
I had an idea „I might do some minimal techno“. So how about doing the inverse with it? Play an hour (or more) of minimal techno, then compress this so it’s only a few minutes long? I’d call that Black MIDImal (because it’s reminiscent of Black MIDI), maybe?
Trade: Actually making sensible minimal techno, and a lot of that, is a challenge. But I wanted to set up a new modular performance thing, anyway.
Neko wa kinishinai

„The cat does not care“ is what would make a Fluxus-inspired music performance that consists of the performer watching a sleeping cat worthwile. This idea is part of my idea to dive into Fluxus under the Fluxus gegen Alles umbrella. What will it sound like? I have no idea. But Neko wa kinishinai.
Trade: The most vague, and as a result, maybe the most interesting one. I would just need a seed idea…
So what will happen next? And when?
I tentatively set a decision deadline for Saturday next week. Which is less than a week away. Maybe I’ll decide something by then. Maybe I have already made progress by then. Maybe nothing happens then. 猫は気にしない.
