Minmax: Progress (mostly Musicmaking)

Further progress on the Minmax album, mostly in Musicmaking again.

Musicmaking

Two new setups, and a considerable amount of new material

26.6.25: What is better than a Techno Kick?

Well, four techno kicks, maybe?

Using an 808 sample on one track and three different analogue bassdrum machines (Elektron lingo) for three further bass drums, then including the bass tom because it’s so nice, I mostly programmed patterns and twisted knobs.

Maybe I’ll do that again in a more composed fashion.

3.7.26: True Minimal

An analogue kick drum and an analogue monosynth. Both with a 16-step sequencer. It almost doesn’t get any more minimal than this.

Take a Korg Volca Kick (which has its own sequencer) and pair a 0-Coast with a SQ-1, and you’re set. The SQ-1 doesn’t even have presets!

Yes, I did add effects (as usual, the Line6 M9 is a go-to for easy-to-achieve multi-effects work), but apart from that. As minimal as it gets equipment-wise.

5.7.26: Mothership Repatched

I continued like I started – with an A-100 build.

There’s a lead voice (A-111-3 through two filters, Ripples and TG3), a bass voice (with a 10 2/3 stop using the A-110-4, and of course using the A-108 and then the SansAmp), a percussion voice (BIA through A-101-6 in allpass and Synthrotek LPG) and a drone voice with three separate parts (Scanned through A-106-6 Xpander Filter, Twin Waves through Fold and Forbidden Planet, Plaits through A-124 WASP, then mixed in stereo and fed through a Sqawk Dirty for HP/LP).

Sequencing-wise it’s Grids for the BIA, a choice between Rene and Bloom for the bass and Marbles for the lead.

Add to that the EAR for BD and HH (BD through NanoCompressor), and send everything through the BigSix with added Mimeophon, Eclipse, 3630, Fredenstein VAS, Xcompressor, Xfilter and G-Bus. It doesn’t get any more complicated than this. Or does it?

I might build a huge modulation network so I can just have it slowly change over literally hours. And maybe put the guitar rig into the lead voice’s path…

Progress

There’s now around 205 minutes of recorded material for Maximal Techno.

Yeah, apropos titles. The album title minmax has been confirmed, as well as the two track titles Ambienthoven and Maximal Techno.

Still need to print ASLSP (the bass drum with changing tempo has been programmed according to a second voices I wrote to the improvised part – maybe I’ll do another version where the bass drum has a constant speed but different pitches?). And record some more Maximal Techno. Although that’s not strictly required.

I might do a track with only a Korg Volca Beats.

Looking good!
